Back To The Beginning
A very short story to my future grandchildren
In the beginning, a long long time ago, God created everything out of nothing!
In 2020, nothing was created out of everything. Let me explain, kids. When I was a youngster, I saw visions of the skies being full of aeroplanes and Skycars in the year 2020. This was the year that surprised everybody...everything changed. The world literally came to a standstill and would change forever, all due to an unseen enemy, a tiny little germ called COVID.
COVID had no idea that she could cause so much trouble. She literally stopped trains, planes, and automobiles. Factories, offices, and malls came to a grinding halt. Streets and sporting arenas were devoid of any fanfare. All sports were halted, couch rugby included. Granny was relieved!
Everyone had to wear masks and we had no idea whether people were happy or sad to see us walking by. Granny never told me that I could remove my mask at home. I have suspicions that she was targeting my insurance policies.
We were told that masks and gloves were sufficient to go to the markets. They lied, everyone else had clothes on.
I was never one for watching the news. Gran would continuously mention how people were ventilating. So did I, and always managed to get her to put her mask back on.
Grandpa had to stop frequenting the pubs but gladly offered to do the shopping for Gran most days, she loved me more than ever but could never understand why I was always licking my fingers.
During this period, all the GOD stuff became good stuff, cities could see their skies for the first time in many decades. Animal life was rejuvenated, and the invigorating sounds of nature became deafening, due to the silence of the man-made stuff.
Numbers and words changed meanings. Before 2020, a 38 was for protection, in 2020, 38 meant a sentence to self-isolation. We understood that less meant more and that quality would always override quantity. Leadership became rudderless, but relationships became partnerships. We were all in this together.
Our saving grace was the digital world, you may know it as the virtual world. This allowed us to communicate, stay in contact with one another, and do business.
There were times when I would look up to the skies for inspiration and came to realize that our company data, files, and folders are already up there, probably our offices too in the not too distant future?
So, in summary, what did Grandpa learn from all of this? Well, if it is the God stuff that thrives during extreme global challenges, let us keep our heads up high and look to the skies. That reminds me of Psalm 121: I will lift up my eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help comes from the Lord who made the heavens and the earth.
The End.
